This year, our center on Koroleva Street in Kazan celebrates its 15th anniversary.
The center welcomed its first patients on January 1, 2011, becoming the second dialysis center opened in Kazan as part of a public-private partnership.
The center’s first Head was Evgeny Aleksandrovich Konyukhov, who was involved in the project from the very beginning, starting with the construction and renovation work in 2010. He now works at NephroMed as a manager responsible for the quality and safety of medical care.
“The center made dialysis much more accessible and significantly reduced travel time for patients from Kazan’s Kirovsky, Moskovsky, Novo-Savinovsky, and Aviastroitelny districts, as well as for patients from Zelenodolsky, Verkhneuslonsky, Vysokogorsky, Atninsky, and Kamsko-Ustinsky districts of the Republic of Tatarstan,” recalls Evgeny Konyukhov.
Since January 1, 2015, the center has been headed by Elena Nikolaevna Akhundova. During her time there, she has trained and hired seven nephrologists specializing in hemodialysis.
“The center was originally designed to treat 120 patients. But thanks to its expansion and continued development, by 2018, 320 patients were receiving treatment there. This made it one of the three largest dialysis centers in Eastern Europe and put it in second place in Russia by number of patients,” says Evgeny Aleksandrovich.
In 2023, the center also opened a free outpatient nephrology service for patients in the pre-dialysis stage, covered by Russia’s compulsory health insurance system.
According to Evgeny Konyukhov, since 2019 the center has served as a clinical training base for nephrology residents from the Department of Hospital Therapy at Kazan State Medical University. So far, eight nephrology residents from five countries have completed their training at the center.
“Our company’s high standards of medical care, our unwavering commitment to patient-centered care, and the ability of the center’s doctors to work with young specialists and share best practices have led three young nephrology residents to choose careers at NephroMed dialysis centers after completing their training,” says Evgeny Konyukhov.
He adds that this is a testament to the strong continuity between generations of specialists at NephroMed, who uphold the company’s important mission: maintaining high standards of care and always putting patients’ interests first.
